Mi fa un immenso piacere perché amo le sue tavole, il suo modo di rappresentare mondi fantastici ed ambienti quotidiani... ed anche come mette in scena i personaggi che popolano la sua fantasia!

1. Quando ti sei avvicinata al mondo dell' illustrazione?
Ho sempre disegnato sin da quando ero una bambina, così quando ho dovuto cercato una scuola per studiare, volevo andare in un posto dove avrei potuto disegnare tutto il giorno.
Ho iniziato frequentando una scuola di progettazione grafica, dove c'era un sacco di lavoro che richiedeva l'uso del computer, la cosa che non preferivo. Così, dopo la laurea ho frequentato la scuola d'arte a Breda, una piccola città nel sud dei Paesi Bassi.
Lì ho davvero scoperto che volevo essere un illustratore, ed è lì che ho fondato Liekeland.
2. Cosa ti piace di più del tuo lavoro?
Ci sono così tante cose che amo del mio lavoro, mi piace collezionare cose belle, andare al mercato e cucinare cibo sano, lavorare in giardino con i polli, e tutte le cose che amo fare, posso illustrare.
Certamente amo illustrare, a volte è un po 'rilassante, e qualche volta è emozionante creare una nuova illustrazione. Posso lavorare con una tipografia ottima, Lecturis a Eindhoven, è una piccola azienda che stampa tutti i miei lavori.
Amo anche le carte buone ed ecologici, scegliere tutto in prima persona è forse la cosa più bella del mio lavoro.
3. Quali sono le tre parole che meglio descrivono i tuoi lavori?
Io non sono brava con le parole, ma penso che le mie illustrazioni siano sincere, felici e amanti della natura.
4. Puoi descriverci la tua giornata tipo?
Dipende da quale giorno è, quando c'è il sole prima esco a dare da mangiare alle galline e al mio gatto, e poi faccio colazione io.
Poi mi siedo dietro il mio computer e rispondo ad alcune email. Poi ogni giorno è diverso, oggi ho scritto dei testi per un calendario. A volte lavoro tutto il giorno dietro il computer, altri giorni invece posso illustrare fino alla sera.
5. Come hai sistemato la tua zona di lavoro?
Ho una scrivania che è stata in passato il tavolo dei miei genitori, sono cresciuta dietro quel tavolo, e ora continuo ad esserci ogni giorno. Quando alzo gli occhi, vedo l'orto e le galline, ed è una vista incantevole.
Io lavoro a casa mia, dove vivo con Dave (www.davehakkens.nl), il nostro gatto e le galline. Mi piacerebbe trovare un lavoro da qualche parte, un giorno, ma per ora mi piace molto lavorare qui.
6. Pensi un illustratore abbia bisogno di uno stile personale? e quali sono i tuoi suggerimenti per svilupparne uno?
Io non ne sono davvero sicura, credo che si avrà sempre il proprio stile, in realtà non credo che hai bisogno di cercarlo.
Penso che l'unico modo per sviluppare il proprio stile, è quello di disegnare molto. Alla fine, immagino,vi piacerà una tecnica più delle altre e insieme con i vostri interessi, diventerà uno stile.

1. How did you get into illustration?
I was always drawing when I was a little child, so when I looked for a school to study, I wanted to go to a place where I could draw all day.
I first went to a graphic design school, which was a lot working behind the computer, what I didn’t prefer. So after graduating I went to the art academy in Breda, a little city in the south of the Netherlands.
There I really found out I wanted to be a illustrator, and that’s where I started Liekeland.
2. What do you enjoy most about your job?
There are so many things I love about my job, I love to collect beautiful things, go to the market and cook healthy food, working in the garden with the chickens, and all the things I love to do, I can illustrate.
Ofcourse I love to illustrate, sometimes it is a little bit soothing, and sometimes it’s exciting to create a new illustration. I can work with a very good printer, Lecturis in Eindhoven, it’s a small company that print all my paperwork.
And I love good and ecological papers, to choose everything by my self is maybe the most lovely thing about my job.
3. What are the tree words that describe your work?
I am not that good with words, but I think my illustrations are honestly, happy and with a love for nature.
4. Can you describe on of your typical day?
It depends on which weather it is that day, when it is a sunny day I will first go to the chickens and give my cat food, and then make a own breakfast. I love fresh fruit out of the oven in the morning.
Then I will sit behind my computer and answer some emails. Then every day is different, today I made some text for a calender. Sometimes I work all day behind the computer, some days I can illustrate untill the evening.
5. What is your working environment like?
I have a desk that was my parents table in the past, I grew up behind that table, and now I still send behind it every day. When I look up, I see the vegetable garden and the chickens, it is a lovely view.
I work at home, where i live with Dave (www.davehakkens.nl) and our cat and chickens. I would love to find a workspace somewhere, someday, but for now I really love to work here.
6. Do you think an illustrator needs a style? and what are your tips on developing an illustration style?
I am not really sure, I think you will always have your own style, don’t really think you need to look for it.
I think the only way to develope your own style, is to illustrate a lot. Eventually you will love a technique the most and together with your interests, it will become a style, I guess.
