1. How did you get into illustration?
We can say since I was a child, but unconsciously, since I started collecting books only for the beauty of the drawings or cutting out pictures everywhere. For example to the children's birthdays I went to pick up the crumpled wrapping paper that I cut out at home and then pasted in various albums. So when I found out that the illustrator was a real job...after graduation I started to get serious!

2. What do you enjoy most about your job?
The management of my time that makes me feel free, even if it means working on Saturdays and Sundays or during the holidays as has happened several times to meet the deadline of customers. The ability to listen to music all day while working. Always do different things because a project is never the same as another. The ability to always improve, learn new things and work with people from all over the world. And then the most important thing ... I get paid to draw, basically my passion and my work coincide.

3. What are the tree words that describe your work?
This question is the most difficult! My illustrations are made entirely by hand and the first word that comes to my mind is "detail" in the sense that attention to details is one that is close to my heart and I hope that this transpire from my work. The other word is definitely "color", I'm not afraid to use it and I love that design has a considerable visual impact. The third word refers to the composition of my scenes, like the eye of the beholder my drawings to be lost in "great detail" (I know, not a single word!). Clearly they are words that have meaning for me and I can only hope that is shared by others.

4. Can you describe on of your typical day?
It is not very particular as I spent the day working! The only thing I allow myself when I wake up in the morning is a long walk with Teo, our beloved hound.  Before starting to paint I reply to emails and I manage "my web life" which concerns the promotion of my work and not only. The cappuccino break mid-morning is a must. Then under working until the evening, with a break at five for my traditional "tea break". In the evening after dinner I'm on the computer, I like to deepen decorative techniques or marketing study for creative reading specialized blogs. Otherwise I prepare my posts for  my Facebook page or I'm on Instagram.

5. What is your working environment like?
My studio is very bright with two large tables, one that I use to paint and one for the computer, scanner, printer and the light table I need to bring pencils preparatory works on paper where I have to paint it. In a glass case I keep the bottles and tubes of paint and all the other products that I use to work with shells, feathers of birds, lichens, acorns and collect anything during my walks. I have plants and books everywhere, books occupy an entire wall and are also on the ground... everywhere!

6. Do you think an illustrator needs a style? and what are your tips on developing an illustration style?
I have to do to meet the preconditions. The first is that this depends on what kind of illustration we speak. English is made a clear distinction between fiction and non-fiction. We are accustomed to think of the illustration as one linked exclusively to fairy tales for children but there is a whole industry called non-fiction that includes for example the popular books, both for children and adults, and other sectors. Surely if you want to illustrate children's stories I would say that it is crucial for an illustrator to have his style, but if you draw for an encyclopedia on animals where several hands of artists must harmonize with each other it is good that the style is not too marked. Being illustrators does not mean however work with publishing houses only. Some are specialized in advertising, packaging, in licensing and more. What use drawing is done it is the important thing and above what the customer wants. In fact it is often the client requesting a specific style for that particular use. So to answer the question I would say that it is important to have its own style but it is vital if you want to make this work. Coming back to the drawing for children to have a personal style is still very important. My style is rather realistic and detailed, but the expression and personality that publishers recognize in my animals allowed me to work hard in the field of books for very young children. The board to develop a personal style is to do baggage of artistic influences that stem from our favorite illustrators (of the past but also contemporary) and develop their own style by merging the features we love most of these artists together with the technique that is more congenial.
